Governing Body

The Governing Body shares responsibility with the Headteacher for the successful management of the school and the provision of the best possible education for its pupils. Apart from the Headteacher, who also sits as a Governor, the Governors are lay people from various walks of life. Three Governors are elected by parents to act as their representatives. All Governors receive training at the outset of their term of office as well as ongoing development training.

The Governing Body meets regularly on official business. Governors also play an important role in school life through monitoring curriculum standards, ensuring the fabric of the building provides for a first class education and listening to the views of staff, parents and pupils alike.

A formal complaints procedure exists under section 23 of the Education Reform Act (see Appendix 2), by which a sub-committee of the Governing Body may decide upon written complaints from parents. However, this procedure is intended only for very serious complaints that have not been resolved by informal contact between parents, the class teacher and Headteacher.

Governor Profiles

Denise Markham Wroe

Denise has two children currently at Langham and is passionate about the success of our small village school. Denise is the Director of an advertising and communications agency and focuses on operations and human resources,  so she has a broad range of expertise in business and marketing. As a co-opted Governor she brings her expertise in communications to good use as well as supporting on the Finance and Premises Committees.

Matthew Coe

With children moving through the school and living in the heart of the village, Matt can be seen walking the kids to and from school most days. Although an elected parent governor, as chair of governors Matt takes an interest in all aspects of school governance, participating in each of the committees. He also represents the school at Wells Cluster meetings, where local primaries and Alderman Peel High School cooperate in several areas of overlapping interest. Matt operates a local heating engineering business.

Suzy Duckworth

Suzy is a co-opted governor and has recently moved to the village with her family. She participates in the Curriculum and Personnel Committee and is a new parent at the school. Suzy completed an English degree and had a career in healthcare management, before studying medicine. She now works as a GP and has an interest in child development and safeguarding, to promote a nurturing learning environment.

Polly Kossowicz

As Headteacher, Polly is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school, reporting to the governing body on a regular basis. However, Polly is also a school governor and participates fully in the long-term strategic direction of Langham Village School. Polly is very familiar with North Norfolk – she came to Langham from St Mary’s (Endowed) Voluntary Aided Church of England Primary at Roughton, where she was Headteacher, and lives with her family in Wells-next-the-Sea. Like Matt, Polly participates in all the committees.

Jeremy Bagnall-Oakeley

Links with Langham Village School run in the family. Jeremy took over as chair of governors from wife Esme, who was in charge when former head Mike Green was appointed. Their two daughters attended the school but have now graduated to careers of their own. As a co-opted governor, Jeremy is now vice chair, as well as chair of the Finance and Premises Committees. Jeremy’s business background is in finance. Jeremy has long been involved in musical activities at the school, such as playing the organ at church services, as well as overseeing cycling proficiency training.

Maggie Broad

As a former Headteacher and more recently an educational advisor with Norfolk County Council, Maggie has a wealth of direct experience to contribute as the appointed Local Authority governor, with insights into the challenges of running a school and teaching at Primary level. She is also a former Ofsted inspector who knows what it takes to maintain an outstanding school. Maggie continues to provide consultancy services to a number of schools and sits on the local Diocesan Board of Education. Maggie is chair of the Teaching & Learning and Pay & Personnel Committees, which also includes a Safeguarding working group.

Diana Teall-Howes

Diana is the elected staff representative on the governing body. Having been at the school for 14 years, Diana is in charge of Amber Class (Years 1 & 2) and coordinates foreign language teaching. Diana has an entire family of teachers, with husband Barry retired from teaching at Alderman Peel High School and daughter Amy now teaching in King’s Lynn after gaining experience helping at Langham Village School on many occasions. Diana sits on the Finance and Premises committees.

Jennie Walker

Jennie has two children currently at Langham. Before moving to Norfolk, Jennie was a science teacher at a secondary school in Camberwell, London, and now runs a guesthouse in Cley with her husband James. She aims to bring enthusiasm and energy to the Governing Body and work hard to support the continued success of Langham Village School. As a co-opted Governor she brings her experience in education to support the Teaching and Learning committee.

Helen Ward

Clerk to the governing body, Helen has also experienced life as a parent at Langham Village School. More recently, Helen has been a teaching assistant at the school, a midday supervisory assistant and continues now to help out voluntarily in Quartz Class.
