History
Leader: Mike Green
History is the study of the past and how it can inform us regarding decisions made in the future. Children have an innate fascination with history and, in our experience, are easily motivated to delve into the past. For young children it is very difficult to conceptualise the passage of time, so we use appropriate vocabulary at different levels. We are bound by the National Curriculum to study a number of units at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. To aid us we use the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority scheme of work to steer us through the relevant parts of the programme with associated activities suggested.
We teach history through story, drama, using artefacts, experts, collections, pictures, CD-ROM, the Internet, books and, of course, visits to places of historical interest.
