‘Send a Cow’ Charity Fundraising

Class 2 have been fundraising for ‘Send a cow’.

People had to guess which named fruit or vegetable was hiding the cow.

In R.E. Class 2 have been learning about Harvest Festival in Great Britain and other countries. They also learned about The Amazing Harvest Rescue which is organized by ‘Send a cow’ charity. This group send money to African countries where they originally bought cows for poor families. The cow would give milk and manure. The milk they could sell at market and the manure helped vegetables to grow. Eventually, the family would have money for things like medicine and education. The family then passed on their first female calf to another family in need and so on.

Class 2 have raised money by asking people to pay £1 to guess which fruit/vegetable a cow is hidden under. To date they have raised £20. Well done everyone!

Drama in Class 2

The IPC topic this half term has been dinosaurs. In our Drama lessons, the children have been studying Mary Anning, a young woman born in 1799. She was a famous fossil hunter and discovered the Ichthyosaurus when she was 11 years old.

Some of the children acted out part of her story in costume.

This half term, Class 2 learned some disco dancing with Mrs Wiles. They learned a short sequence of moves, including ‘hitching a ride’, ‘air guitar’ and ‘going under water’.

It was great fun.

ECO Week

This week was ECO week. In Class 2 we looked at the need to:-

recycle
reduce
reuse

We read a story written by Michael Foreman called ‘Dinosaurs and all that rubbish’. It was about how the dinosaurs saved the world.

We looked at how we could reuse paper in the form of papier mache. We followed Miss Hopkins’ instructions and made a papier mache dinosaur egg. It was sticky but fun! We shredded newspaper to make the dinosaur’s nest too.

Instructions to make a dinosaurs egg.

Blow up a balloon.
Cut up newspaper into small rectangles.
Stick the paper to the balloon, cover it completely.
Let it dry and repeat it the next day.
Paint the balloon a colour and decorate.
Slice the balloon in half and put in a mini dinosaur.

Sainsbury Centre Visit

Class 2 and 3 had a fantastic day visiting the Sainsbury Centre Gallery. We enjoyed a guided tour of the gallery, spent some time sketching and then took part in a class workshop. An excellent day! Beautiful artwork on display in school!

Arts Week

Class 2 had a fabulous time during Arts Week. We looked at different types of ceramics while we discussed ‘What is Art’. The children had some great ideas. We then went to the Sainsbury Centre of Visual Arts, in Norwich, to view their collection of Art and artefacts. A very special day complete with a workshop.

Next day, back in school, we used everyday objects on the playground to create some installation art. Later that day we began to create some 3D installations for our garden area. Over the half-term we have investigated portraiture too. We love it all!

Royal Wedding

On the lead up to the Royal Wedding, Class 2 looked at maps, flags and emblems of the United Kingdom. We made a T-shirt in D.T. it reflects the colours of the United Kingdom’s flag.

Class 2 Plants for Sale

Class 2 have been growing plants for sale. They made £50 and bought a mini greenhouse for Class 1, 4 watering cans and some bamboo canes for the garden.

A World from our Window

This half-terms I.P.C. work was based around our new greenhouse and our new raised vegetable beds. We called it ‘A world from our window’.

We have made new plant boxes around the school, grown seeds in the greenhouse and learned how to tend our new vegetable bed. We made flying creatures to decorate the lobby and in D.T. we designed and made our own miniature gardens. Flossie and Zelia won the ‘Garden of the year award’.

Everybody made a fabulous effort.

Health & Fitness IPC

Class 2 have been working on a health and fitness project for our I.P.C. We have eaten healthy fruits and vegetables. We have tried things we have never eaten before! We have used fruits and vegetables to create simple dyes during our science and design technology and turned bags into art.

With the help of our class assistants we have made a variety of breads, smoothies and jacket potato fillings which we will be eating with salads and houmous dips before the half-term holiday. This has involved a lot of maths and measuring and ICT when we programmed the bread maker.

One afternoon we played a lot of get fit games which were very active and played other games to help to train our brains to think quickly. Great fun!
